CHOORAKKODU TEMPLE
The Choorakkode Bhagavathi is considered the younger sister of the Anthikad Bhagavathi. In the same sanctum sanctorum, both Durga and Bhadrakali are worshipped here as self-manifested deities (Swayambhu). During the offering of Naivedyam (sacred food offering), separate offerings are made for both deities. The Prathishta Dinam (consecration day) is celebrated on the Uthratadhi day in the Malayalam month of Makaram. Additionally, on the Bharani day in the month of Makaram, a special celebration is held for Durga in the temple. Bhadrakali’s special day is the Bharani star in the month of Meenam. Separate offerings are made on distinct platforms for Durga and Bhadrakali.
The Pooram festival celebrations commence on the Makiram day in the month of Meenam. The festivities begin with Paani at 3 PM on the Makiram day. On the Punartham day, a special ritual is performed at the PazhangaparambuThanthri household, alongside the Anthikad Bhagavathi, followed by participation in the Pooram festival at the Anthikad Bhagavathi Temple.
Choorakkode Bhagavathi participates in the Arattupuzha Pooram alongside the Anthikad Bhagavathi. After completing the Arattu (sacred bath) in the morning, the deities are honored with offerings before departing. The final ceremonies of the Pooram conclude with the Uthram Pattu and the lighting of lamps (Vilakku) at the temple.
